Oil leak?? I just found the grease fitting fo it about 3 weeks ago so i greased it and now the lump is starting to leak oil. I dont have any kind of service manual nor can i find one. A buddy of mine has an 08 Kuboto mini and he said he is suppose to grease the swing bearings every hours, his manual states to grease it with pumps for every 90deg. Thats alot of grease IMO!!! Now, my question is have any of you fella's had any kind of a leak like this and did greasing the crap out of it slow the leak or even stop it.

I talked to a couple equipment mechanics in the past and they say if the swing bearings start leaking then get rid of the machine. Believe me, i would love to trade it in on a new Kubota but my finances wont allow at this time. If you are leaking hydraulic oil, it may not be that bad. The only place for hydraulic oil to be introduced into the swing area is from the swing motor.

More than likely your swing motor shaft seal is leaking into the swing gearbox. The hyrdraulic oil will fill the gearbox and blow the swing gearbox shaft seal. The hydraulic oil will then do the same to the grease bath for the swing bearing. It will fill the grease bath and leak out the seal for the swing bearing.

When you pump grease into the bearing, the hydraulic oil has to go somewhere and it goes out the swing bearing. Pull the entire swing motor assembly with gearbox. Reseal the motor and gearbox, possibly install a new seal on the swing bearing and try it out. Good luck. Well i cleaned it up the best i could, i filled up the hyd tank and added 1 gallon of Lucas oil treatment.Discussion in ' Compact Excavators ' started by Stroked-zMar 24, Log in or Sign up.

Bobcat Leaking Swivel - Pics inside! Joined: Mar 24, Messages: 7 Location: ottawa, on. Hey guys, purchased this mini ex and the swivel is leaking.

excavator swing drive

Its coming from the very bottom of the machine, looks like right behind the snap ring. I brake-cleaned and blew off the whole area. Let it sit for 12 hrs or so and then you can see it weep.

Looks like someone had "siliconed" it and tried to stop it from leaking at one point. My question is, can i just removel the snap ring and get to the seal right behind it? Does the outer case pull off or? Let me know, never taken one of these apart but the mechanically inclined aspect i have covered Thanks in advance -Carm. Stroked-zMar 24, Pics are in above links to my photobucket. Every leaking swivel joint that I've worked on required removal of joint and disassembly.

Thanks for the reply Willie but that did not answer my question Someone has definetly been in there before, and the joint is leaking from behind the snap-ring only. I ordered the seals this AM from Bobcat, and ill tear it apart as soon as theyre in.

If you have any info it would be great, if not i guess ill figure it out. Stroked-zMar 25, Are you looking for a Swing Motor for your Bobcat Excavator? You've come to the right place! I replaced the swing motor seal and o-ring.

It was a strange looking seal with two teflon looking lip seals. I leaks as much as it did before. I am wondering if any one of you have seen this?

Could it be the swing brake leaking up instead of the motor leaking down? Same vent. I did not think it was the brake because if you are not moving the swing it doesn't leak.

We asked Mike Whittaker, senior shop technician with Gregory Poole Equipment, Raleigh, North Carolina, to give us a roadmap for inspecting these machines.

He chose as his inspection machine a Caterpillar CR with 3, hours. All good inspections start with a walk around, which will highlight any obvious problems, some of which may stop you from exploring further. Then run the track on the elevated side, looking for cuts, missing chunks or dry rot in the rubber.

Repeat on the other side. Looking for leaks at this point is especially critical, Whittaker says. Then examine the frame, ROPS, boom, stick and blade welds for any cracks. And note any missing safety decals. Does the machine need to be repainted? Examine seals for leaks, and check all pins and bushings for looseness.

Open up each service compartment, noting whether the latches work. Make sure the fuel tank cap and strainer are in place and working. Look for oil seepage in the boom and stick cylinders, or if there are damaged hydraulic lines. Are all brackets in place? Start the machine and get it up to operating temperature. Whittaker then runs it through a series of operational checks:. Then swing the boom left and right, extending the stick and opening and closing the bucket.

Look for any looseness in the pins and bushings or coupler. Brake during each rotation, and note the response.

Make sure the seat adjusts and the seat belt is in good condition. If the cab is enclosed, operate the air conditioning and note any glass, mirror or door latch problems. Are the controls operating smoothly? Does the backup alarm work? Make sure it rotates freely.Discussion in ' Excavators ' started by absolutedieselFeb 22, Log in or Sign up. Heavy Equipment Forums. Welcome to HeavyEquipmentForums. Owner came in to say "HI" and asked what might be causing this dripping mess around table. He asked if it might be over greasing but all I see when I look at it is a mix of what appears to be hydraulic oil and water possibly mixed with some grease due to the viscosity.

My question is, is there some type of shaft seal on the swing motor that could leak hyd oil down onto table? I dont know as MOST of what I do is engine related issues and am only beginning to get into the equipment side of things.

There is a gear train under the swing motor that has its own oil sump. There is a dipstick used to check the oil level.

bobcat swing motor

At the bottom of this gear train there is a big shaft and gear that engages the ring gear attached to the carbody. The oil in the swing machinery is held in by a seal around that big shaft. When the swing machinery is low on oil and you see oil coming out of the slewing or Rotec bearing that the house rides on, that is a big indication the swing pinion shaft seal is worn out and leaking. In my experience with Cat excavators the gear is part of the shaft and has to be removed from the swing machinery in order to change the seal in most models.

The fix means removing the swing machinery and completely disassembling it for the repair. Some of the smaller models may have a seal retainer and the seal is bigger than the pinion gear and can be removed without tearing down the box.

On some machines the pinion gear is bolted to the shaft and it can be removed for access to the seal. In my experience the project takes about a day and a half with the parts on hand and a large press to dismantle the box if need be. If you don't have to dismantle the monster I've done the job in six to eight hours of hard labor. Good Luck! John C. Always down for something new, thats why I'm getting away from trucks and more into equipment.

Trucks are OK - just getting burned out I guess. Hi absolutediesel, You might want to get underneath the machine and look up in the center area. You should find a small plate under the house base. You can remove that plate and drain off any water and oil that has collected inside the slew ring housing. Be sure and check the oil level in the swing gearbox as John C has suggested. On some swing gearbox units, you have a dipstick pipe to check swing gearbox oil level and another pipe with a cap on it for a fill pipe.
